The Versatile Aussie Award:
The Versatile Aussie award was first created in 2006 to encourage both showing and a working discipline to be competed for at the same event on the same day, and demonstrate the ideal which is that a working dog can be beautiful, or a beautiful dog can also work. Since its creation it has been kindly sponsored by Ruth Summerley and is quite a sought after award to obtain at the Open Show. The Versatile Veteran Award was then introduced in 2016.
-
The format is on a points basis, points being collected at the open show only.
-
The classes are open to both dogs and bitches
-
Each dog must compete in a minimum of 1 breed class as per the show schedule. The type of breed class you enter does not matter, so, you could enter just a colour class or a working class if eligible.
-
Each dog must also compete in at least 1 working class for which it is eligible, either Obedience, Agility/Jumping or both.
-
The same person MUST handle that dog in all the disciplines entered to obtain points. Although moving the dog by a runner in the breed classes would be permitted.
The Points:
Points obtained for placings in all of the classes are as follows:
Competing in a Class means:
-
Breed Class - being in the ring for the duration of that class entered (if marked absent from the class this will not count)
-
Obedience - doing ALL the exercises and being marked for them.
-
Agility/Jumping - completing the course even if eliminated and getting a course time. Dogs aged upto 6 years will be marked from the graded classes and dogs aged 7 years and over will be marked from the Veteran classes only.
-
TRAINING ROUNDS DO NOT COUNT
Each dog must compete in a minimum of 1 breed class as per the show schedule. The type of breed class you enter does not matter, so, you could enter just a colour class or a working class if eligible.
Each dog must also compete in at least 1 working class for which it is eligible, either Obedience, Agility/Jumping or both.
The same person MUST handle that dog in all the disciplines entered to obtain points. Although moving the dog by a runner in the breed classes would be permitted.
How the winner is decided:
-
The highest points from 1 Breed class and 1 Working discipline are put forward onto the score board.
-
In the event of a tie or ties the points from second and subsequent classes would be taken into consideration assuming that more than one discipline has been entered. A maximum of 2 obedience and 2 agility/jumping classes would be taken into overall consideration. If the result was still tied the scores in obedience and times in agility/jumping classes would be counted, i.e. the lowest points lost in obedience class would be the higher placed dog or the fastest times in Agility/Jumping would be the higher placed dog.
-
Usual KC rules for entry into classes apply as per the show schedule.
So now you know the ins and outs why don’t you have a go. Book your classes at the next open show and step within the shoes of our previous winners.
